  3. UVCS also has made the first measurements of ion outflows in coronal streamers now believed to be the source of slow 
  4. speed wind streams. It discovered that the oxygen velocity distribution becomes comparable to that of the hydrogen at 
  5. 4 solar radii in certain streamers indicating the importance of waves in streamers. UVCS observations of coronal mass 
  6. ejections (CME) have yielded the first measurements of velocities transverse to their primary direction of motion, the 
  7. temperature distributions of ions present and the three dimensional structure of the CME material. UVCS 
  8. determinations of elemental abundances in the extended corona provide information about the origin of the constituent 
  9. gases and its connection to abundance variations detected in the solar wind far from the Sun.
